REVIEW OF THE SEMESTER

 1. Shifting the Paradigm

I know this is the first reading that we had, but I always remember it since it was the first time that I read something like this, something that is important to read for those students who want to become a teacher, because it has ideas on how to get involved and to know how to help students. I had no idea about a lot of things in education, so starting with this reading, it helped me to learn new things and how to get more involved with students.

2. Alfie Kohn - What to look for in a classroom?

This one was one of the reading that I really liked because Kohn is trying to keep a good environment in the classroom, he also mentioned some ideas that can be beneficial for teachers and students as well. Something that is good and keeps the students motivated, are decorations, I saw a lot of them in the classroom where I was doing my service learning and I feel like if a classroom has a lot of student's decorations or teacher's decorations, the classroom will feel more welcoming, so Kohn will be happy to see how that classroom was decorated, even the desks were in a circle so students can face each other and participate during class.

3. Richard Rodriguez - Aria

I am going to be honest, this one was one of the readings that I enjoyed the most, because I have a lot of connections with this, since the reading focuses on being a bilingual person. Like I mentioned on my blog about this reading, I see that thing like he mentions happen a lot with families that speak more than one language. There is part that says that the priority for parents is that their children learn the language. Of course, this is what they want because they do not want that their children will have trouble in not understanding what other people said just because they did no learn the language. It also reminded me how hard learning a new language can be, and how brain has to change to do it.

Sex and Gender Identity

 REFLECTION

I agree with what RIDE says. I feel like this is something that students/children should always have the support of someone else, no matter how they need it. They should always have someone to talk, in case they are being discriminated against or if it is because of their sexual orientation or religion, have someone who can guide them so they do not feel insecure and see that it is not a problem and that they can have the support of other people. Additionally, this would also help them not get depressed, so they can see that we are all equal, that we all have the same rights and that they should not be afraid of being who they are.

As the document mentions, all students have the right to dress as they want, this is another way in which they can express their freedom, so I also agree that schools  should not have a dress code. Documents like these are essential to read for students who want to become teachers, so they can have a guide and be well informed. This gives us ideas, so we are prepared when facing a case like this and know how to guide the students in these situations.

Reading The Trevor Project I learned a lot, it has so much information that we need to acquire. Being honest I like the way this article is trying to educate people about gender and sex. I also like the way it explains every term like "cisgender," transgender," "nonbinary" etc. I think this reading is a good resource to read for those people who do not have enough education about topics like this, so they can gain knowledge. I really like the part of the pronouns where it mentions that it is a wat of respecting how people identify themselves and that is why Dr. Bogad made us put our pronouns on our name tags.
